Apple has added yet another list to the App Store with their new
Best Games You've Never Played section, which appeared recently.
The list includes 50 games Apple thinks are worth checking out. Not all of them have been updated recently, and many don't take advantage of multitasking or Retina display resolutions - but every game on the list is a winner, so make sure you head over to the App Store and
take a look.
Out of the fifty, I've managed to pick my personal favorites. These three are games I've literally never stopped playing: they're fantastically addictive, and reasonably priced. So here they are:
Minigore
In Minigore you can play either as the lead character, John Gore, or as any of the other unlockable characters as you embark upon a quest to destroy as many furies (small black creatures that bite) as possible. The game offers a variety of weapons (machine gun, shotgun, grenade launcher), and also allows you to duel-wield. Glorious graphics and addictive gameplay arguably make Minigore one of the best games available for the iPhone. And at $0.99, it's hardly going to break the bank. It's also available in a
HD iPad version for a slightly higher price, which is also fantastic.
Fieldrunners
Fieldrunners is a great tower defense game, in which the the player has to fend off an onslaught of running fiends using a variety of death-dealing towers. The game comes with several maps and different modes of play, and is also available in a
HD iPad version (which is better than the original). Like Minigore, Fieldrunners is another iPhone game I've never stopped playing - simply because I haven't got bored of it yet. At $2.99 it's slightly more expensive, but definitely worth the purchase.
Canabalt
Canabalt is a super-thrilling universal survival game, in which you guide a running man through an apocalyptic city. The guy automatically runs from left to right, and you only have to touch the screen a single time to make him leap into the air - but be warned: this game is far from easy. The longer he runs uninterrupted, the faster he travels - and the faster the running man travels, the higher he jumps. So a combination of tactics plus quick-deicision-making is required to put your name next to a high score in Canabalt. The app is also $2.99, but don't forget it's universal - the same version will run natively on both your iPhone or iPad.
