U.S. iPhone Users Can Now Plow, Plant, And Harvest On The Go In FarmVille
June 24, 2010
FarmVille made its debut in the Australian App Store yesterday evening and now it is finally available in the U.S. App Store, which in turn will most likely decrease productivity across the nation for days, weeks, and months to come.
FarmVille is by far the most popular social game on the web, with nearly 64 million people taking part in the growing and harvesting process each month, according to AppData. That's actually on the low side, as the amount of players has declined since its 83 million player peak in March. Zynga is looking to combat that decline by putting the once Flash-only game on your iDevices, starting with the iPhone and iPod touch.
In FarmVille, you are tasked with planting and growing fruits and vegetables in order to earn coins and experience points, which can be used to decorate and expand your farm. The faster you work to clear the fields, rear livestock, and help out your neighbors, the faster you will level up.
The iPhone version of FarmVille features new touch controls that allow you to farm faster than ever before. The game also features new iDevice exclusive items. If you are impatient and have some cash burning a hole in your pocket -- real life cash, that is -- you can head to the store and obtain huge amounts of coins and farm cash from anywhere between $4.99 - $49.99 via in-app purchase.
For those still trying to avoid the whole social networking scene, we're sorry to say that if you want to play FarmVille, you will have to sign up for a Facebook account.
It looks as if Zynga intentionally rushed the release of FarmVille to coincide with the release of iPhone 4, as the app is still missing some important features, such as Retina display optimization and multitasking support. However, Zynga has stated that these features will be available via a future update.
It will be interesting to see how many new FarmVille players will sign up now that the game is available on the iPhone and iPod touch. Will you be giving it a try just to see what all the fuss is about?
