Apple To Set Aside $175 Million For Free Case Program

July 25, 2010

According to a recent report which appeared on PCWorld, Apple plans to set aside $175 million in the September quarter to cover its recently-launched iPhone 4 Case Program. As you probably know, the program was launched in response to the iPhone 4 "antenna issue", and was announced at Apple's AntennaGate press conference earlier this month. Now, Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer has stated that the company plans to set aside $175 million of iPhone 4 revenue to cover the cost of the iPhone 4 Case Program. Oppenheimer revealed this figure in a Q&A session, which followed Apple's third quarter financial results. Speaking with analysts, Apple's CFO explained:
"I expect the accrual we'll need to make will be about $175 million in September quarter and will be recorded as revenue in the December quarter. We will expense the cost of Bumpers when we ship them to customers and our most important objective is to take care of every customer."
Obviously, this will be a whole lot cheaper than paying for an iPhone 4 product recall - but even so, the figure is hardly a drop in the ocean. Does this make you feel as though Apple is taking care of its customers, or are you still peeved there's an "antenna issue" in the first place? Or, are you just sick to death of hearing about the terrible wrath of the "death grip?" Either way, be sure to let us know in the comments box below!
