Aqua Motor Racing, then head over to the App Store quick! Because the game's developer,
Resolution Interactive AB, has just released a sequel to its popular water racing game. And, what's more, it's available in a free lite version, just like its predecessor!
Aqua Motor Racing 2, which was released yesterday, greatly expands upon the original. Graphically, the game is so much better - with a wide variety of exotic backdrops accompanying the player as he plows through wave after wave. While the game doesn't (yet) take advantage of the iPhone 4's Retina display, it does offer brilliant visuals across all generations of Apple's handset.
Two game modes are included in Aqua 2: Quick Play, and Challenge (which consists of 14 championships). Players can race across six different locations, and through a total of 48 courses. Additionally, a Garage mode allows successful players to upgrade their gear - which is essential in order to win more advanced championships.
What I love about this app is the actual gameplay: racing over waves, launching over ramps, twisting around buoys - it's extremely enjoyable, to say the least.
And, what's more, it's easy to enjoy. Players have the option of controlling their vehicle either through touch-steering (with manual braking or manual acceleration), or accelerometer-steering (with manual braking or manual acceleration). Personally, I prefer touch-steering with manual acceleration: the on-screen steering wheel works surprisingly well (even though it's not the mode of steering I usually adopt). In addition, touching the screen when in mid air allows your racer to enact a stunt - which adds energy that players may later use to give their vehicle a speed boost. All in all, it's a brilliant game.
