Apple Kills In-Store Jailbreaks

August 6, 2010

The new jailbreak hasn't been easy on Apple Store employees. By allowing anyone to jailbreak any iDevice by simply visiting a website, the Dev-Team enabled pranksters all around the world to try the "feature" on demo devices in Apple's retail stores. It almost became something of a sport, and a particularly exciting one as getting caught could apparently get you banned from Apple stores altogether. Of course, it was also a pain for the Apple Store folks as the only way to reverse the operation is to re-flash the device with a fresh system every time. Well, like all good things, it didn't last and Apple has reportedly blocked access to jailbreakme.com from all of its stores. From now on, visiting the website will just send you back to Apple.com. Better late than never, as jailbreakme.com has been around almost three years now, but oh well. Guess we're back to putting the iMac screens in negative mode...
