iOS Google Services Deal Confirmed & Recently Renewed

September 26, 2010
There have been lots of rumors concerning the arrival of Bing as the possible default search engine in iOS. Many believe Google as the iPhone's default search engine (as well as other services like maps), is due to a juicy deal between Google and Apple. Google paid Apple a lot of money for that presence, and if Bing was to offer a better deal, they could easily replace Google. We now know more; according to Google's CEO Eric Schmidt, recently interviewed by the WSJ. There is indeed a deal, and it has recently been renewed. This means that Apple's relation with Google is actually much better than we previously thought (as confirmed by Schmidt). Also, despite the rumors, Bing will not become the default iOS search engine anytime soon. Apple will most likely not replace Google as their map provider either, despite recently buying their own mapping company. Schmidt didn't give any additional details, so we don't know what the deal includes or what kind of compensation Google is paying for the "honor." Nevertheless, the deal exists and is going to last.
