PlayOn Now Offers Streaming Service On iPad

September 23, 2010
For those PlayOn customers that have been waiting to utilize the media streaming service using the iPad, the wait is over. MediaMall Technologies, Inc. recently announced a free software update for PlayOn Premium users that enables streaming to the iPad using HTML5 and Safari over 3G or Wi-Fi. This latest update allows iPad users to access the PlayOn media server software for viewing of personal media files and the service's full library of online video content. These include the ability to access content from Hulu, Netflix, Comedy Central, CBS, MTV, TV.com, PBS, SpikeTV and The Ultimate Fighter, among others. Once users pair their iPad with a networked PC, they may then take the device off the network and stream media anywhere there is a Wi-Fi or 3G connection. The service is not currently available on Macs. Existing PlayOn Premium customers can download the update to their PC and begin streaming immediately to their iPad. New customers can try the service free for 14 days and then pay $39.99 for the first year and $19.99 for each year thereafter. The company also offers a lifetime one-time payment option of $79.99. PlayOn Basic users will need to upgrade to Premium to access streaming to the iPad. According to Jeff Lawrence, CEO of MediaMall Technologies:
"The initial release of PlayOn for the iPhone and iPod touch was very well-received by consumers and existing PlayOn users, so full support for the iPad is a natural progression for us. Now that we've enabled all Apple iOS devices to stream everything that PlayOn has to offer in and outside of their home network, we plan to keep charging forward and work to support additional mobile platforms so that PlayOn users can access their favorite shows, movies and music anytime and from anywhere."
MediaMall Technologies recently allowed a similar feature for the iPhone/iPod touch. Based in New York, Seattle and Copenhagen, the company enables networked entertainment devices to view Internet based content. The technology uses a Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 PC on a user's home network to stream on-demand video, audio, and image content from the Internet, and then channel it to embedded client software on the networked device.
