Sneak Peek: Hands On With Ngmoco's Take on Pictionary We Doodle

September 23, 2010
Ngmoco bought On5's Charadium, and now has their own version known as We Doodle primed for the worldwide App Store. If you've ever played Charadium you know what's in store with online pictionary. Just draw the word right on your iDevice, and hope someone can guess it, and then switch turns where you need to guess others' drawings. We Doodle changes up the formula a little by providing experience bars and special stencils to draw with. As you level up you earn coins which allows you to buy different sized stencils, and pre made shapes to make really great looking images. There is also a new doodle assist feature to round off your images, add a little shadowing, and make more deluxe images than the sharp imprecise drawing of your finger alone. You can still play live online with near instantaneous match ups, but there's a new mode as well. Now you can play turn based in a style made famous by Word With Friends so you can draw and guess at you and your friends own pace with multiple games at once. The game is free to download with in-app purchases to remove ads, buy coins for different stencils, and even buy hints. If you like Charadium you'll love We Doodle which lets you draw images and have live guesses. The game connects effortlessly and the doodle assist as well as various stencils make drawing and guessing that much easier. The leveling up process adds a little more incentive to keep playing on top of the Plus+ leaderboards and achievements. The turn based play is a great addition to the game with a whole new style that takes away the time constraints, and focuses more on drawing great images and making sound guesses. The ads are quite obtrusive so that every few rounds a full page ad appears. The in-app purchases for hints and new stencils gives an unfair advantage to those who spend money in the game. Luckily you can still enjoy the full game without paying one cent and you have no real incentive to do so. We Doodle is live in the Canadian App Store, and will be available worldwide soon. We Doodle will be available for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. Playing on the iPad is great with the extra room to draw, and the bigger keyboard to type on.
