MarkdownMail Is Even More iPad And Blogger Friendly, Plus Supports Drafting Messages

October 5, 2010
Second Gear's MarkdownMail was already a good tool for those who do a lot of HTML emails but don't have a need to learn the entire HyperText Markup Language. Less than a month after its debut, the company has released v2.0, which adds iPad support, the ability to save and edit drafts, and emailing raw Markdown data. This latest release adds native iPad support by offering MarkdownMail in Apple's universal app package. The iPad user interface isn't far from the iPhone and iPod touch, but, as usual, rather offers nearly everything on-screen simultaneously. The iPad side contains the same preview, help and support info, email, Markdown syntax reference, copy to clipboard, and delete features as the previous version. After updating to MarkdownMail v2.0, you'll notice a Drafts button in the top-left corner when working with a message on your iPhone and iPod touch. Tap it to jump to a list with a small preview of all of your previous messages. Within that list, you can return to your current message, jump to a different message, create a new message, or use the Edit button to delete messages. iPad users get the chance of doing this without so many extra steps, as all of their drafts are located in an easy to access pane that sits directly left of the message editor. If you're a blogger using services like Posterous or Tumblr, than you will likely really enjoy the added ability of sending an email containing the raw Markdown source instead of automatically converting to HTML. To use this feature, in lieu of tapping on the email icon, tap on the "send to" icon -- same menu as support, copy to clipboard, etc -- and you'll now see an "Email Markdown" option. Tapping this will create a new message, like before, but insert your Markdown text instead of converting it to HTML. MarkdownMail is compatible with iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 4.0 or later, and iPad running iOS 3.2 or later. MarkdownMail v2.0 is available in the App Store now with a price tag of $3.99. Yes, that's a price increase from the previous v1.0 $1.99, but there's no need to purchase a second version for each iDevice type. Previous MarkdownMail owners get the newer version absolutely free.
