The holidays and food, two things that seem to go together as well as peanut butter and jelly. How does one finish up a glorious meal, by following it with a tasty dessert, of course. Well, maybe you don't even need the meal to enjoy some sweets. Anyway, it's time to put the spotlight on the always enjoyable cookie. The fresh from the oven handful of goodness.
Early last month, iPad owners received the treat of having the option of a wonderful desert cookbook with all of the frosting, the Martha Stewart Makes Cookies app, right at their fingertips. Apple's tablet has proven to be a handy chef's assistant. Despite it selling well, not everyone has this revolutionary device. Are those without iPads not worthy of a gratifying goody? Today is your day, as Callaway Digital Arts brings you Martha Stewart Makes Cookies for iPhone and iPod touch.
The glory of dozens of cookie, brownie, and ice cream sandwich creating information now in the palm of your hand. Perhaps I'm getting too excited, but gazing at desserts can do that to a person. This more mobile version houses the same "cookie runway", easy to follow recipes, a number of "how-to" videos, ingredients lists, favorite list, shopping list, tools, and tips of the iPad version.
Browse the cookie library in three different ways. The simple and quick "cookie runway" in landscape, a slightly less visually stunning image plus name list in portrait view, or an elegantly designed sample scene in portrait view by tapping on a dessert and swiping from left-to-right.
Tapping on the sample scene photo of a dessert will bring you to the cooking instructions. Alternately, you can swipe from right-to-left, tap on the photo, or tap on the "recipe" text. From there, you can find the ingredients list by tapping the tab at the bottom, or share this delight with a friend through email by tapping on the Share tab.
Within the ingredients tap, you'll notice that it says Shopping List in the top-right. Tapping on this will add all of those ingredients to the interactive shopping list area. Adding more than one dessert's ingredients to the shopping list combine's them, which is extremely convenient.
To access the shopping list, some tips, tricks, tools, and videos, tap on the Martha Stewart logo flag in the top-left. Access 11 how-to videos, a large list of tools categorized by action, and some handy tips. Tapping on a tool will provide a description and a direct link, allowing you to purchase it at Macy's.
I think, that covers all of the basics for the app. Seeing as we're on the subject, I'd like to point out that Callaway Digital Arts has also recently released the free Martha Stewart Makes Cookies Lite for iPad, which provides eight delicious cookie recipes to judge for yourself. Ready, set, get baking!
Martha Stewart Makes Cookies for iPhone and iPod touch requires iOS 4.0 or later, and is available in the App Store for $2.99.
