WindowSeat Eliminates Need For GPS In Tracking Flights

January 7, 2011
There are many flight tracking apps available for the iPhone/iPod touch. However, most require GPS or a persistent network connection. This is fine for those on the ground, but doesn't help those hoping to track their own flights and are in the air. A new app helps track flights without a GPS connection. Created by AppOver, LLC, WindowSeat is available now for the iPhone/iPod touch.

This app predicts realtime flight information based on historical data between cities. WindowsSeat’s strength is its ability to help current travelers track their flight’s path as they are sitting on the plane. During the flight, users can adjust the flight time, and the app will recalibrate the plane icon’s location on the map. Users can also adjust the plane location, and WindowSeat will recalculate the remaining flight time. Once an adjustment is made, WindowSeat automatically calibrates the flight’s speed.

As flights are tracked, points of interest are shown. This includes landmarks and geographical areas that users can learn about when they fly over. Simply put, this is a great app and one I will be using on my next flight. WindowSeat is available for $6.99 in the App Store.
