Coconut Dodge ($0.99) by Electronic Arts will have you moving your crab legs quickly to collect falling gold, bounce and pop beach balls, collect precious gems and seek the coveted Viking helmet. All this happens while you are dodging … why yes, coconuts.

As described, Coconut Dodge sounds crazy as all these elements come together in one game. Coconut Dodge is a great deal of fun and is already a hit on PlayStation. Now, you can have this fabulous game on your iPhone or iPad.

Out of the sky, it will rain gold squares, gems, golden trophies, gold bars and more. The object is to collect these items to earn points. At the same time these items are coming at you, coconuts will fall from the trees above. Watch out, as coconuts will smash your cute little crab. If you use the “turbo” mode now and then, your crab will scurry around really fast, which can help you move swiftly out of harms way. It does take some practice to use this mode effectively.

There are mazes that require you to move your crab quickly back and forth. A maze is comprised of gold and coconuts, and has a pattern to figure out in order to collect all the gold. Watch for beach balls as they will provide extra points as long as you bounce them off your crab the number of times indicated in the middle of the ball. You can earn power-ups along the way, which provide a golden opportunity, as only valuables will fall so you don’t have to dodge any coconuts.

One way to defeat the coconuts is to catch the Viking helmet. This helmet will make your crab invincible for a short time, rendering the coconuts that fall on your head ineffective. This gives you the opportunity to gather all the gold and valuables you want without any worries.

Although I love this game, I struggled with the placement of the arrow buttons. These arrows are what moves the crab back and forth. You have the option to place them on the bottom or in the middle of your screen and you can choose the left, center or the right side. The arrows sit right next to each other. It would be nice to have one more option where you have one on arrow on the left and one on the right. This would allow for the use of both thumbs; it would be similar to holding a game controller.

Overall, Coconut Dodge is very addictive and entertaining. It is great for all ages and fun to pick up when you are craving a distinctive and challenging game.
