New iPad To Be Available In Time For Holidays - LTE & Improved Display?

June 4, 2011
A recently published report notes that Apple could release an LTE-enabled third generation iPad in time for the holiday season. According to the report, the speculated iPad would feature an improved display, too. The news comes from The Wall Street Journal, which cited a research note by CLSA that claimed Apple is planning on releasing the iPad 3 in time for Christmas. As reported by CLSA, via The Wall Street Journal:
“While most vendors appear fixated on matching the specs and features of iPad2, our checks suggest Apple will release iPad3 in time for the holiday season, sporting a better display and LTE capabilities.”
Previously, a variety of rumors claimed that Apple's iPad 2 would feature an improved display. However, the general consensus seemed to side with the idea that the Cupertino, CA company would instead save such an improvement for the iPad 3. Both the original iPad and the iPad 2 were announced and released during the first four months of the year. Could Apple be planning on bringing this schedule forward by several months, in order to release a third generation iPad ahead of the holiday season? I don't think so. To me, it makes sense for Apple to announce and release a new iPad around February-March, simply because the holiday season is the company's last major chance to shift a lot of old-generation iPads, right before the next generation is announced. Because the iPad is a standalone purchase (not requiring a contract, unlike the iPhone), it makes for the perfect Christmas gift - indeed, we saw proof of this last year, when Apple's iPad became one of the most-wanted Christmas gifts of 2010. If Apple moved the schedule forward, it would miss out on shifting a whole lot of iPad 2 models ahead of the refresh, which we think will take place in February or March. Regarding the iPhone, CLSA's report states that it doesn't expect the iPhone to be LTE-capable until next year. What do you think? Let us know in the comments. [via 9to5Mac]
