Textbook Renting Arrives To Amazon, Kindle App
July 18, 2011
Amazon announced today its new Kindle Textbook Rental business, which allows students to save up to 80 percent off textbook list prices by renting those books for use on the Kindle and/or Kindle app.
This news comes at a time when students are getting ready to begin their fall semesters in a few weeks.
Students are able to search for textbooks via Title, Author or ISBN, and then decide whether to purchase the e-book or rent it instead.
According to Dave Limp, vice president, Amazon Kindle:
"Students tell us that they enjoy the low prices we offer on new and used print textbooks. Now we're excited to offer students an option to rent Kindle textbooks and only pay for the time they need--with savings up to 80% off the print list price on a 30-day rental."Textbooks are available for rental for anywhere between 30 and 360 days at a time. Extending a rental is also possible via your Amazon account. Plus, rentals may be converted to purchases later on. It will be interesting to see if Amazon can find success with its Kindle Textbook Rental business. Our bet is there are quite a lot of students out there that will find it beneficial and a great way to save some money. What do you think? Leave your comments below.
