Run Your Own Kingdom In Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim

August 30, 2011

Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim ($2.99) by HeroCraft was available on Macs and PCs back in 2000, with an expansion in 2002. This was a popular game that received rave reviews from gaming critics for its originality and expert blend of real time strategy (RTS) and roleplaying.

Now the popular computer game is available for download on the iPad, and it’s just as much fun now as it was back then. In Majesty, you play as the ruler of a tiny fairytale kingdom, responsible for its prosperity, safety (slay all those rats!), and the happiness of the citizens.

For veteran RTS lovers, Majesty may be confusing at first. Unlike most games of this type, you are unable to interact directly with your citizens and heroes, an element that makes this game both unique and interesting. Your heroes live their own lives and decide what they are going to do or not do, but as their ruler, you create beneficial buildings and bounties to encourage heroes to act a certain way.

Knights, necromancers, rangers, wizards, and other heroes are created and trained by you in buildings that you construct (a familiar element of any RTS). Once they’re released into the wild, though, all you can do is sit back and watch their shenanigans.

Your heroes will function autonomously, destroying monsters, acquiring treasures, and upgrading their gear. But only as long as you provide them with the proper tools to function.

To encourage heroes to defeat enemies, you can set a bounty. The higher it is, the more likely it is that heroes will fulfill your request to receive the loot. Like other RTS games, new buildings and upgrades will be available as you progress, keeping the game dynamic and engrossing.

Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim has been updated to have great graphics and an iPad-suitable interface. Besides that, this is a faithful port of a game that is a refreshing change from typical RTS games.

I didn’t get a chance to play the original Majesty game, so I’m pleased that it was brought to iOS since it’s a great strategy game. I’d recommend this to RTS and RPG lovers alike.
