Hard Candy Prepping Cases For An Apple Device With No Name

October 4, 2011
Case maker Hard Candy is said to be busy manufacturing 50,000 cases for a “mystery Apple device,” according to Cult of Mac. This case is said to be for an iDevice very different than the current iPhone 4 model. In fact, it might not be for an iPhone at all. According to the report, which has been confirmed by three sources, the case is for an iDevice with a 4.44-inch screen that is significantly thinner than the current iPhone model. In addition, it includes a large, “lozenge-shaped Home button.” Cult of Mac doesn’t know for sure whether the case is for an iPhone 5 or for a new version of Apple’s popular iPod touch. Stranger still, the Hard Candy case could be for “an iPad mini: a smaller, cheaper device to rival the 7-inch Kindle that is likely to be a big hit this Christmas.” This is the first time we've heard of anything close to an "iPad mini," and we aren't necessarily adding any weight to that theory. In fact, Cult Of Mac suggests the cases are most likely for for a next-generation iPhone 5 or iPod touch, at least probably. Plus, remember today's event is called "Let's Talk iPhone." Still, it makes you wonder. We promise, all your questions will soon be answered. Today's Apple event starts at 1 p.m. EDT. Enjoy!
