Updated: Apple To Fix iOS 5 Battery Issues - Seeds A Beta Fix To Registered Developers
November 2, 2011
If you've been having battery issues with iOS 5, or your iPhone 4S, everything should be getting back to normal soon. Indeed, Apple has announced that it has figured out the problem, and will be releasing a fix to the public very soon. In the meantime, they just released a first fix to registered developers, to see if it improves the battery, as well as an array of other issues.
As reported by MacRumors, Apple has released iOS 5.0.1 beta to registered developers this afternoon through its developer portal, and it seems to be fixing some of the main concerns many people were having with iOS 5. Namely:
- Fixes bugs affecting battery life - Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad - Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud - Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation - Contains security improvements iOS 5.0.1 beta introduces a new way for developers to specify files that should remain on device, even in low storage situations. This is great news, in particular for original iPad owners, who didn't get to enjoy the iOS 5 multitouch gestures initially, as well as developers who had issues with iOS 5 deleting temporary files a bit too agressively. What about the rest of the world? Apple reached out to AllThingsD confirming the issue and the upcoming fix:
“A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices,” Apple said in a statement to AllThingsD. “We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.A few weeks sounds particularly long for people unable to last a day on a full charge, but hang in there, at least they're working on it. As usual, we'll keep you posted.
