Watch Out For The Evil Furax In Save The Furries, Plus Win A Copy

December 20, 2011

Save the Furries! ($3.99) by Bulkypix is a cute and entertaining puzzle adventure game. The furries are a race of adorable green furred creatures, who take pleasure in strolling around strange planets fraught with danger.

Your job is to keep the furries safe by clearing the obstacles around them. Tap and swipe pinballs, ropes, logs, crates, carts, switches, and more as the furries wander around obliviously. There are galactic creatures to avoid, spiky pits to overcome, and explosions to deal with.

In each level, the furries will automatically walk forward, straight into pits or other dangerous objects. Hitting a wall will cause them to turn around, and it’s important to keep a close eye on their movement so that you can guide them safely though the level. To facilitate this, the game allows you to zoom in and out of the level to view more of the environment.

In order to move objects such as crates, you have to pick up a little ball (accented by four red arrows) and use it to bash the object until it moves. Objects are also broken by repeatedly bashing the ball against them.

The ball is rather bouncy, but not awkward to use. If you’re wondering why there’s a ball to move and break objects, it’s so that you are confined to the same walls that the furries are, meaning you can’t jump ahead and clear obstacles out of order.

The objects are sensitive, so you will need to use minute adjustments to move them in some situations. If you’re not careful, a single errant finger movement can send the furries to their death. If you do cause one or two furries to turn into a puddle of goo, you can restart quickly with the pause button.

A wide range of objects to use and interact with makes Save the Furries a game that is continually interesting and challenging. I didn’t get bored playing this game and I went through quite a few of the 60 available levels. Sending furries flying with carts never gets tiring.

I liked Save the Furries, but the game is not universal and the iPad and the iPhone versions each cost $3.99 each, which is a negative. While I do recommend this game, I’d wait for a sale.
