Fisheye Fans Will Love Snappr
Snappr ($0.99) by REVOLVER Studios is a fast and fun camera app that gives your photos a striking fisheye look.
Fisheye lenses can be pretty cool, but it’s hard to find a good fisheye filter on the iPhone. Most photo apps have the effect, but let’s face it – it’s usually not the best looking fisheye effect around. Fortunately, Snappr is here, and it’s a great way to get the fisheye effect, if it’s what you’re looking for.
When the app is launched, you’ll get taken to an interface that is reminiscent of a vintage camera. The top half of the screen will be the viewfinder, and the bottom half will have buttons to access taken photos, fisheye lens, and flash. To take a picture, simply tap anywhere on the viewfinder.
The best thing about Snappr is the fact that there are multiple lenses. To access them, tap on the lens area in the bottom half of the screen. You will then find a total of five different fisheye lenses, each having its own unique look. Selecting a lens will then automatically take you back to the camera view (each lens will subtly alter how the viewfinder looks).
Whenever you snap a photo, the app will process it in the background (you can see the red progress bar in the silver chrome), so you can continue to snap pictures. If you want to view the photos you’ve taken, just tap on the button with two squares.
In your Library, you can view the most recent photo, with older pictures in a drawer below the viewing area. Tapping on a thumbnail of another image will switch out the images in the top half. You can access some options by tapping on the image in the top half: view full-screen, share (email, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram/Camera+), and save to Camera Roll. If you tap on the batch button in the corner, you can do batch delete or save. The option to share your photos is there too, but it only works for individual photos, not batches.
Saved images will be in a pretty reasonable resolution. For my iPhone 4S, images saved were 1200x1200. It’s pretty good for a fast and fun photo app, and probably good enough for decent prints (though I’m not really one to print a lot of photos).
I found Snappr to be a pleasure to use. I experienced no crashes during my testing of the app, and the lenses provide quirky and fun looks to fisheye photos. The developers are promising updates in the future that will improve rendering speed, image quality, and even more lenses.
