Absinthe A5 Jailbreak Downloaded Nearly A Million Times In Just Three Days

January 24, 2012
Wow, that was fast! After unleashing its long-awaited Absinthe A5 jailbreak just three days ago, the Chronic Dev Team has served out nearly one million downloads of the software. Yup, in just over 72 hours, 953,232 users (surely tens of thousands more by now) have officially jailbroken their iOS 5 wares using the new tool. A brief breakdown, posted on the Dev Team's official blog, reveals specifics:
491,325 new iPhone4,1 devices 308,967 new iPad2 devices 152,940 previously jailbroken (at 4.x) iPad2 devices
This weekend haul is certainly impressive, and it represents a significant uptick in jailbreak adoption. While the numbers point to a theoretical maximum of 800,292 new users, the actual number will be quite a lot less. Still, the jailbreak community's recent growth is undeniable, and -- for fans of an "open" iOS -- that's a decidedly good thing. If you're a first-timer about to take the plunge, make sure to check out our archives of recent coverage and caveats. The tool (available for either Mac or Windows systems) can be downloaded for free from Greenpois0n.com.
