CES 2012: Dexim Provides Show Attendees With A Look At Their iOS-Controlled Monster Truck

January 13, 2012
Dexim, a provider of power, audio, video, and protective gear for iDevices and other mobile devices, not only exhibited at this year's Consumer Electronics Show but was named an International CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for their iOS-controlled AppSpeed miniature monster truck. This new toy, simply named the AppSpeed Monster Truck, is another entry to the upcoming evolution of radio controlled vehicles. Ditching the traditional dual thumb stick or pistol-style controllers, these smartphone and tablet operated toys offer a new experience in control and additional features. To turn your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch into a wireless controller, you'll be attaching a small RF transmitter to your iDevice's Dock connector and installing the free DFSpeed iOS app featuring two manual, touch directions on the screen or tilt your device like a steering wheel, and three automatic driving modes, including one where the truck will dance to music. As for specifications, the AppSpeed Monster Truck fits in your hand, it's about four inches long, and has a run time of up to 30 minutes on the internal rechargeable battery. Of course, play duration will depend on usage. Charging, which requires about 15 minutes, is done via a USB connection or the included portable Quick Charger that uses three AAA batteries. Operating distance is claimed to be up to 50 feet / 16 meters. The AppSpeed Monster Truck is available in two color options at numerous retailers, such as Best Buy (tap or click here for the black version and tap or click here for the red version) and Amazon (tap or click here for the black version and tap or click here for the red version), for $69.99 plus applicable sales and shipping charges. DFSpeed is compatible with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, second generation through fourth generation iPod touch, and iPad / iPad 2 (using Compatibility Mode) running iOS 4.0 or later, and available in the App Store as a free download.
