Canabalt Creator Developing Official Hunger Games iOS Game

February 17, 2012
The creator of the popular iOS arcade games Canabalt and Gravity Hook HD is set to release yet another iOS arcade game. But this new one is rather different, in that it is based on an upcoming film, which in turn is based on a bestselling book. It’s the official "The Hunger Games" iOS game. In his latest post on his personal blog, Adam Saltsman shares that way back in October he was contacted by Lionsgate for a possible partnership on an iOS game tie-in for "The Hunger Games." Lionsgate’s "The Hunger Games" is the film adaptation of the first installment in Suzanne Collins’ famous trilogy of dystopian novels for young adults. It tells the story of a young girl who is thrust into a brutal and deadly competition against other children a la "Battle Royale." The film’s protagonist is particularly skilled in archery, so Saltsman thought of making marksmanship a key element of the game. The game is an original and uses touch-based controls, and not unlike Saltsman’s current hit game Canabalt, it involves a lot of running on the part of the main character. Saltsman is working on the game in collaboration with several other top game creators and developers, including Paul Veer of Super Crate Box fame. The game, which is officially called The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire, will be available for both iPhone and iPad. It will be released on the film’s opening day, March 23.
