Part of our 2012 Macworld / iWorld Expo coverage, we shared a preview of Pokertini, “video poker with a twist.” Smappsoft promised their latest poker app would be out in February and, sure enough, the time has come to place your bets.
On the surface, Pokertini is as simple as playing three video poker machines simultaneously. Your wager is spread among the three hands, but bets can be transferred from one hand to another as you see fit. For many, such an activity would be addictive enough. However, that’s not the big spin Smappsoft is putting on this popular casino game.
The actual difference in playing Pokertini versus just a few standard video poker machines is the inclusion of “Twists,” which is what Smappsoft is calling power-ups. Twists include recycling cards so that they are reused for the draw, randomly swapping cards amongst hands, and more. There is no limit to how many times you can use a Twist per round, although, they do cost coins and should be implemented wisely.
Smappsoft provides new players with 1,000 coins to get them started and, of course, more can be earned by winning poker rounds. If you end up losing too much or want to take advantage of better Twists, there’s always the option to buy more virtual coins using real money via in-app purchases.
Additional betting features include a payout table to help you understand how much each winning hand is worth, five different amounts to bet per hand, and multipliers for those really big spenders.
