Conquer The Dark Magician And Win Back The Realm In Two Towers

February 2, 2012

Two Towers ($0.99) by FireBlink is a strategy card game for the iPad. Using resources at hand, destroy the dark magician and become the ultimate power. Keep track of your gold though, you will need it to win bigger battles.

This card game is a lot like the computer game Arcomage. It is made up of three resource types that are used to “buy” actions from the player’s hand. Each player has six cards in his hand that can either be played to cause an action to take place or discarded. Resource types are “Gems,” “Mana,” and “Troops.” Players must have enough resources to use a specific card.

Actions that occur when a card is played will damage the opponent’s tower, wall, monastery or barracks. For example, a player may have a card in his hand that costs seven mana and will increase his or her tower by five points while the enemy loses six gems. The increase to the player’s tower will help him ultimately win the game, while the loss of gems to the opponent will make it more difficult for him to play cards in his hand.

There are three ways to win the game. A player must collect a maximum amount of resources, build a tower with the maximum amount of points or destroy an opponent’s tower. Players also win if their opponent gives up.

There are eight different castles to win battles in. The first castle can be played for free. However, each additional level castle will cost coins, which are earned by winning a game. Castles can be replayed over and over for additional coins.

The game can either be played against a computer-generated artificial intelligence (AI) or against another real life opponent through Game Center.

Two Towers has a tough learning curve. The AI opponent is difficult to beat for someone playing the game for the first time. The instructions are clear, but they do not point to any visuals, so some of the mechanics are hard to figure out at first. For example, it is difficult to tell which is the tower and which is the wall.

Overall, this strategy card game for the iPad is entertaining and fun. One must be willing to put in plenty of effort in order to beat the challenging AI opponent. It is priced right at only $0.99. Pick it up in the App Store today.
