Gerber 'Steady' Multitool Packs An iPhone Mount Along For The Hike

April 12, 2012
Like most of its outdoors-ready multitool lineup, the Gerber Steady features a stainless steel blade, a mini saw, three screwdrivers, a bottle opener, a wire cutter, and a set of pliers in one portable, pocketable package. Pretty standard fare, really. However, the Steady's got a new trick up its sleeve (or, in Knife Knut parlance, its scales): a camera mount! Yep, this particular multitool packs a convertible tripod base and a suction-cup mount to hold any small camera or smartphone in perfect position to grab that shot on the go. Just unfold the legs, pop up the load-bearing arm, and stick your iPhone (or, God forbid, Android handset) in place, ready to capture your ugly mug in the great outdoors. Of course, there are a few minor caveats to consider, as Larry Greenberg discusses in his video review: Will I add this to my regular EDC rotation? Maybe. I've already got plenty of multitools, but at an MSRP of $64 and a street price of around 25 bucks less, it certainly couldn't hurt.
