Check Out The Etcher On Kickstarter

May 16, 2012
It's been about half a century since the first Etch A Sketch was introduced to the public. Needless to say, it was a hit. Etch A Sketch may have not been as big of a hit as the iPad is now, but inventor Ari Krupnik is looking to bring the two together in a way that no one could have seen coming. Say hello to Etcher, Krupnik's current project on Kickstarter. Etcher essentially turns your iPad into a giant Etch A Sketch, complete with the iconic red frame with white knobs. Like the original Etch a Sketch, turning the knobs will create horizontal or vertical lines on the iPad's screen. Erasing your etched sketches by shaking the Etch A Sketch is probably one of its most memorable features and makes a comeback in the Etcher. However, this time, erasing your work doesn't mean it's gone forever. With the Etcher, you'll be able to save your drawing to the camera roll, email it, post it to Facebook or Flickr, and even save a time lapse of your drawing. Krupnik and his supergroup of a team are on the right track with the Etcher. They have an official license to the Etch A Sketch trademark, as well as an official Made for iPad certification from Apple. It looks like Etcher will stay true to its roots while playing as nicely as possible with your iPad. For more information, visit Kickstarter. A minimum pledge of $60 will get you a red or blue Etcher. If it meets its goal of $75,000 by June 9, the Etcher is expected to ship this October. My Etch A Sketch skills are severely lacking, so I'll sit this one out. Will you back this project?
