Dispel The Monsters In Antoine Bauza's Monster Chase

June 13, 2012

Antoine Bauza's Monster Chase ($0.99) by Snowed In Studios is a matching game that relies on your memory and a good amount of guessing. Based on the board game of the same name, this game encourages teamwork.

Monsters are sneaking from under your bed, but there is a way to turn the tables and scare them. Apparently each monster is afraid of a specific toy. An icon of the toy will show next to the monster as he appears. Find that toy hidden within the room and the monsters will flee like chickens into a dresser.

The monster meter in the bottom corner will keep track of how many guesses you make. Another monster will appear once three guesses have been made. It becomes game over if all four of the monsters show.

Hiding spots are spread throughout the room. Anything from a trap door to boxes in the closet can contain a toy. A nice element the developers added was putting a yellow aura around all of the hiding spaces. While the spots stay the same, where the toys are hidden will change.

In addition to normal play, four different modes are available as well. Easy mode gets rid of the monster meter all together, Monster in a Pack mode is when you need to scare all shown monsters at the same time, Expert Hunter increases the stakes by the monster under the sheets bringing an additional monster, and finally Fearless Hunter only allows two mistakes before another monster shows.

Multiplayer is also available. The focus in this mode is to work cooperatively to dispel the monsters. The player meter in the bottom right corner will indicate whose turn it is.

This is a fun game definitely intended for a younger audience. The monsters look like monsters without being too scary. With the different modes available, adults can join the matching fun as well.
