Get A Glimpse Of The Future With LaunchPort's New AP.3 Magnetic Sleeve

August 30, 2012
Even after creating the first inductive charging and mounting system for the iPad, LaunchPort isn’t finished. The company has recently introduced its new AP.3 magnetic sleeve for both the new iPad and iPad 2. The sleeve, as the name suggests, allows a user to magnetically mount an iPad to the LaunchPort base station (sole separately), as well as other metallic surfaces like refrigerators or work benches. Ergonomically designed with hand grips on both sides of the sleeve, the device’s strong magnet system firmly attaches to a surface or base station, but is easily removed when needed. While mounted, the sleeve can also be rotated 360 degrees to use in either portrait or landscape mode. Available in black or gloss white, the AP.3 magnetic sleeve will set you back $149 and is available through the company’s website. The company’s inductive charging system was introduced during CES 2012, but was only compatible with the iPad 2 at that time. But the price of convenience doesn’t come cheap. To have the complete inductive charging system, users must purchase a BaseStation or WallStation for $199. But if you have the money, it looks like a great system. And hopefully, it will just be a matter of time before Apple creates a built-in inductive charging system. Earlier this summer, Apple was granted a patent for its own system for charging an iPhone or iPod touch. An inventive hacker from England couldn’t wait, and modified his own iPhone 4S to charge without wires.
