Apple could be planning on launching its AppleCare+ service in Europe soon, according to a recent report from iGen.fr.
The website claims that the U.S.-exclusive service is set to become available the other side of the pond, and will set European iDevice owners back just under €100 (plus the per-incident fee, which in the U.S. is $49). However, no further details concerning pricing or availability are revealed by the website.
As a reminder, AppleCare hasn't exactly received good press in Europe. Back in January, we told you how the service is at the heart of a legal battle:
Test-Aankoop [a consumer group] says that Apple’s one-year limited warranty goes against a law implemented by the European Union (EU). This law gives users a minimum of two years protection on all consumer electronics. Naturally, this includes the iPhone/iPod touch, iPad, and Apple TV. The suit was filed with the Commercial Court of Brussels. Test-Aankoop believes that Apple has deliberately withheld information about the official EU directive to customers, which automatically extends warranties to two years. They believe that Apple withholds this information in order to sell the company’s extended warranty program, AppleCare. As such, Apple has removed physical AppleCare boxes from store shelves in Italy, and the AppleCare website more clearly outlines exactly how Apple's service compliments European warranty. At the beginning of the week, Apple revamped its AppleCare offering in the United States, adding 24/7 live chat and an improved website. We'll let you know if AppleCare+ is indeed set to launch overseas.
