iTunes Festival

Apple CEO Tim Cook began the event by giving a shoutout to this year's iTunes Festival, currently being held in London. Twenty million people applied for tickets to the event which is now available for live streaming in 100 countries.

By The Numbers

By the end of the month, almost 700 million iDevices will have reached customers.

iOS 7 is set to launch next week

The next version of iOS is set to launch to the public on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Now hear this

With iOS 7, users will have new ringtones to choose from. The tones are described as very upbeat and techno-y; the text tones sounded straight out of Zelda.

Official: The iPhone 5C is here!

Apple has announced the arrival of the iPhone 5C. The phone will be available in green, white, red, and yellow. The 16GB model will be $99 and 32GB for $199 on a two year contract.

To compliment the new handset, Apple is releasing $29 cases. They are made of ”soft-feel silicon rubber,” and have circular cutout patterns so you can see the original color underneath.

The iPhone 5S is announced

As expected, Apple unveiled the seventh-generation iPhone. Called the iPhone 5S, the device includes a 64-bit Apple A7 processor, which is up to 2x as fast as the previous generation of CPUs. And yes, it is available in a gold color.

Apple's new flagship, as expected, includes a better camera. It also includes a new motion processor called the M7.

The iPhone 5S also includes what is being described as Touch ID, which makes the home button a fingerprint sensor. The new piece of hardware is 170 microns thin, senses 500 ppi, and scans your sub-epidermal skin layers.

All fingerprint data is encrypted and locked in the A7 chip. As a result, it’s never accessible by software, and is not stored on Apple’s servers and never backed up to iCloud.

Price points on the iPhone 5S remain the same. It will be $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for 64GB on a two year contract. There will be no 128GB model (again), as was rumored.

Launch Dates

Both iPhones launch on Friday, Sept. 20. Preorders for the iPhone 5C one week earlier, on Sept. 13. Apparently, there will be no preorders for the iPhone 5S. They go on sale and will be available on Sept. 20.

The iPhone 5 is dead, long live the iPhone 4S

As of today, the iPhone 5 is no more. However, the 2-year-old iPhone 4S will remain and become Apple's "free" handset.
