September 20, 2013
A day after the launch of iOS 7, Apple has issued an update to its Apple Configurator app that mainly adds support for new features and restrictions in the new mobile operating system. Apple Configurator is a Mac app designed to make the mass configuration and deployment of iDevices easy for a school, business, or institution. The app can be used to prepare new devices for immediate distribution, supervise devices that need to maintain a standard configuration, and assign devices to users. As mentioned, the latest update to Apple Configurator, which brings the app to version 1.4, adds support for new iOS 7 features and restrictions. These include:
  • Allow modifying account settings
  • Allow AirDrop
  • Allow connecting supervised devices to any Mac
  • Configure Web Content Filter
  • Configure AirPlay mirroring destinations and passwords
  • Configure AirPrint printers
  • Configure Managed Open In
  • Allow Control Center or Notification Center on lock screen
  • Configure Limit Ad Tracking setting
  • Install fonts
Apple Configurator 1.4 also adds support for enrolling multiple unsupervised devices in MDM without tapping each device, and for enrolling Apple TV in MDM without using the remote. Both are made possible by the new Setup tab in Prepare. The newly updated app also includes an improved UI for installing a single profile on unsupervised devices. Apple Configurator 1.4 is available now in the Mac App Store for free. The app requires OS X Mountain Lion and iTunes 11.1 or later. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
