Ahead Of Sochi 2014, The IOC Releases The Olympic Athletes' Hub App For iPhone

October 29, 2013
The 2014 Olympic Winter Games begin in Sochi, Russia in 100 days. To celebrate this milestone, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced the launch of the Olympic Athletes’ Hub app for the iPhone/iPod touch. Available for free, the app acts as a searchable directory of the social media activities of Olympic athletes, both past and present. The Olympic Athletes’ Hub app includes Facebook and Twitter feeds, plus photos and videos posted on Instagram. Fans can also use the app to connect with the Olympians, while the athletes themselves can text each other and the IOC directly, and vice versa. Using the Hub’s search function, users can locate athletes by country, team, sport, or edition of the Games. Over 5,000 verified Olympians have already joined the Hub, and the number will continue to grow as the countdown to Sochi 2014 continues. According to Claudia Bokel, an Olympic silver medallist in fencing and current Chairperson of the IOC Athletes’ Commission:
The new app and updates unveiled today are the latest example of the IOC’s continued efforts to connect athletes with their fans. The Hub is a great tool for us athletes to interact with the public and even amongst ourselves. The new additions make it even easier for us to communicate in fun, innovative ways.
The 2014 Olympic Winter Games is from Feb. 7-23, 2014. The Olympic Athletes’ Hub app is available to download in the App Store.
