SoundHound Update Brings iOS 7 Design, Personal Music Map And More

October 17, 2013
The popular music-tagging iOS app, SoundHound, has just received an iOS 7-optimizing update. But that's not all. Besides offering iDevice owners a new design, users of the application can also take advantage of an impressive new feature, too. Called "My Music Map," the feature allows SoundHound users to have all of their music tags plotted on a map, which can be accessed from within the application on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. As outlined in a press release which reached our inbox recently:
The new signature feature within SoundHound for iOS 7 is “My Map,” where registered SoundHound users’ music discoveries are visualized on an interactive map.  Users can filter their map view across time periods including by day, week, month or all-time. While “My Map” allows users to collect and visually track their own music moments, they can also continue to see which songs and artists are being discovered by other SoundHounders around the globe using the “World Map” feature, introduced earlier this year. Registered SoundHound users can easily toggle between the two map views. All users can see the World Map and filter between music genres including Rock, Urban, Country and Latin. These features are dynamic and real-time.
In order for the personalized music map to work, however, users must sign-up for a free SoundHound account. This also allows the service to sync tag history between iDevices, which is useful. Besides the new design and feature, speed improvements and bug fixes have also been added in the latest version of the application. Changes made in SoundHound 5.5, then, include:
  • Beautiful new iOS7 design
  • Exclusive new feature: My Music Map - Your music moments visualized by location
  • Register for a SoundHound account – Sync & Save your search history across devices, as backup, and to activate your My Music Map
  • Speed improvements
  • Bug Fixes
Both the free SoundHound and the $6.99 SoundHound ∞ have received the update, and as mentioned, the apps are optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
