Valve's Steam Mobile Client Redesigned For iOS 7, Updated With Improvements

December 11, 2013
Steam Mobile has just been updated and redesigned for iOS 7. Steam Mobile is the official iOS client of Steam, the popular digital distribution and gaming platform developed by Valve. Essentially, it enables users to connect with the Steam community on the go, with support for chat, group browsing, and news reading. With its latest update, Steam Mobile has gained a new design based largely on the look and feel iOS 7. It doesn't yet appear to be completely redesigned for the new operating system, though, seeing as it still shows some remnants of its iOS 6 trappings, e.g., old keyboard and textured chat bubbles. The latest update to Steam Mobile also delivers the following improvements:
  • Offline chat
  • Improved push notifications and icon badging
  • Moved invites to a separate screen
  • Streamlined interface for responding to friend invites
  • Display friend nicknames
  • Added iconography to indicate that friends are on mobile or using Big Picture
  • Include Facebook suggested friends in invites list
  • Improved stability and performance
The new version of Steam Mobile is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 4.3 or later. Steam Mobile was officially launched out of closed beta in February 2012. Originally optimized for iPhone and iPod touch only, it finally gained universal support with native iPad compatibility through its previous update late last January. That update also included several other improvements, including VoiceOver fixes and the ability to go offline without logging out. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"]
