Apple’s iOS 7.1 Coming Soon: In Time For The SXSW iTunes Festival

March 4, 2014
John Gruber has heard "from a little birdie" some Apple news that seems to answer two important questions. Namely, when is Apple releasing the iOS 7.1 update, and when will the necessary iTunes Festival at SXSW app arrive in the App Store? The Daring Fireball host says the iOS 7.1 update for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad should "ship any day now." The reason? The iTunes Festival app requires it. Announced last month, the iTunes Festival at SXSW runs March 11-15 in Austin, Texas, and will feature performances by ColdPlay, Imagine Dragon, Pitbull, among many others. All five nights of the U.S. iTunes Festival will be available to enjoy for free as a live and on-demand stream via an official iOS app and through iTunes on a Mac or PC. There will also be a special iTunes Festival channel on Apple TV. With seven days to go before the start of the festival, the iOS app has yet to be released. Apple's iOS 7.1 update was first announced in November. It features support for Apple's new CarPlay service, bug fixes, tweaks, and other changes. We will let you know when iOS 7.1 is released.
