Hacker To Release A Dual-Boot Tool For iOS 6, iOS 7

March 31, 2014

Hacker @winocm has confirmed that he’ll be releasing a dual-boot tool for iOS, allowing iPhone and iPad owners to switch between iOS 6 and iOS 7 on their iOS device. The news comes after the iOS hacker demoed a triple-boot utility running on a jailbroken iPad 2.

The software was shown off in a YouTube video published last week, and in case you missed it, we’ve embedded the video below. At the time, we explained that @winocm had managed to triple-boot an iPad 2 between iOS 5, iOS 6, and iOS 7, but proposed that the complexity of the software – combined with the fact that @winocm is set to join Apple as an employee later this year – meant the tool likely wouldn’t launch publicly.

However, in a recent Twitter reply (via Redmond Pie) the hacker notes that jailbreakers will be able to boot between iOS 6 and iOS 7 “soon” using his method.

Besides demonstrating how an iPad could triple-boot between iOS 5, iOS 6, and iOS 7, @winocm also recently published a video exhibiting a jailbroken iOS 7.1-powered untethered iPhone 4 handset. Though Apple patched an essential evasi0n7 exploit in iOS 7.1, the development indicated that iOS 7.1 could be jailbroken – yet news concerning a potential public release is scarce.

For those of you looking to enjoy the iOS 7.1 Calendar app on your iOS 7.0.x-powered iOS device, Ryan Petrich (@rpetrich) launched Gregorian – a port of the updated Calendar app – in the Cydia Store recently, and it can be downloaded free of charge.

We’ll keep you updated with further information concerning an iOS 7.1 jailbreak and @winocm’s dual boot tool as we receive it.
