Is Apple Launching Two New iPhones In 2014?

April 22, 2014
A new report out of Taiwan once again makes the claim that Apple is planning to launch two new iPhones later this year. A 4.7-inch “iPhone 6” is expected to launch this fall, followed by a 5.5-inch “iPhone Air” model a few months later, according to the Commercial Times. According to the report, Samsung and LG Chemical, Apple’s manufacturing partners, are having difficulty producing the thin cells that go into the larger device’s ultra-thin battery. Because of this, Apple’s first “phablet” might not arrive until the fourth quarter. Earlier this month, Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Apple would release two iPhones this year. At the time, the KGI Securities analyst said not to expect the larger model to arrive until the end of the year. I can’t imagine that Apple would announce new iPhones at two separate events. Most likely, they would unveil both models in September or October, but delay the launch of the phablet by a few weeks. A similar release schedule occurred last year when the iPad Air arrived in October, though the iPad mini with Retina display didn’t show up in stores until about a month later. Personally, I don't expect to see two new iPhone models this year. I think the 5.5-inch model we've been hearing about is actually the 2015 iPhone.
