Rdio Now Has Music Discovery Service TastemakerX To Take On Spotify's The Echo Nest

July 1, 2014
The popular music streaming company Rdio has acquired TastemakerX, the startup behind the music discovery and curation service of the same name. The acquisition was announced by Rdio in a new blog post:
Today, we’re thrilled to announce that we are growing our team with the acquisition of TastemakerX, a leading music discovery and curation service. Based in San Francisco, TastemakerX was founded in 2011 to help artists connect with fans. TastemakerX enables listeners to discover new music, build and listen to virtual collections, and view artists based on social discovery.
According to Radio, it intends to use the talent behind TastemakerX toward its "continued rapid international growth, catalog expansion and overall product development and market strategy." Presumably, TastemakerX was picked up by Rdio mainly to fill the gap left by The Echo Nest, the music intelligence platform from which the music streaming company decoupled shortly after its acquisition by rival Spotify last March. The official iOS apps of Rdio and TastemakerX are both available on the App Store for free.
