Apple TV supplies can't keep up with demand thanks to $25 iTunes gift card promotion

August 21, 2014

Earlier this month, Apple began offering a $25 iTunes Gift Card with any Apple TV purchase. The promotion, which runs through Sept. 30, has become so popular that many Apple retail stores are running out of stock for the company’s “hobby” device, according to 9to5Mac.

On Thursday, the Apple TV is showing up as “Unavailable for pickup” at Apple Stores across the United States. This comes just days after Apple essentially dropped the price on the Apple TV to $74. The box normally retails for $99.

Also fueling Apple TV demand could be the upcoming 2014 iTunes Festival in London, which kicks off on Sept. 2. This year’s event features performances by Lenny Kravitz, The Script, Maroon 5, Pharrell Williams, Beck, Sam Smith, Blondie, Kylie, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, and many more. Each performance will be live-streamed on the Apple TV.

The Apple TV’s renewed popularity could also be motivated by the recent launch of NFL Now. On the new channel, fans can view game highlights, original content from NFL media and the 32 football teams, live press conferences, and more.

Looking to purchase an Apple TV and receive your $25 iTunes Gift Card? You should call your local Apple retail store for availability — or order one online.

You can also purchase a device through Best Buy (for $92.99) and Amazon (for $92.95).
