Tumblr releases official app optimized for OS X Yosemite on the Mac App Store

October 18, 2014

With the official launch of OS X Yosemite, Tumblr has released its official app for Mac.

In keeping with the look and feel of the latest version of Apple’s desktop operating system, the all-new Tumblr app for Mac features a flat and minimalist design.

But what does it do, given that Tumblr already works perfectly well on a desktop Web browser?

“It lets you post to Tumblr from almost anywhere on your Mac,” the Tumblr staff notes. “If a window has a share button, you can share the things in that window to Tumblr. Got a photo lying around on your desktop? Throw it right onto your blog with a couple of mouse clicks.”

Tumblr for Mac is also a standalone browser for Tumblr and Tumblr alone, enabling you to enjoy your memes, animated GIFs, and whatnot on the popular blogging and social networking site without being distracted by other sites and apps.

Compatible with OS X Yosemite, Tumblr is available on the Mac App Store for free.

Tumblr for iOS, which is optimized for both iPhone and iPad, is available on the App Store for free. It was updated last month with support for iOS 8, including its own share extension, and for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
