In the 1920s, British Museum’s archaeologist Sir Leonard Wooley (1880-1960) found a few of these board games in Mesopotamia (Southern Iraq), in fairly good condition. The FREE game featured here is a reconstruction of one of these highly treasured artefacts, now part of the Museum’s collection. There is evidence that The Royal Game of Ur was the most popular game of the era. It is a typical race game, the ancestor of today’s race games.
