AirPods Availability Could Soon Improve As Manufacturing Picks Up

December 30, 2016

If you weren’t lucky enough to get a pair of AirPods for the holidays, we’ve got some great news for you. AirPods availability is expected to improve soon, as Apple’s main supplier for the truly wireless earbuds has increased production to meet demand, according to China’s Economic Daily News (via Digitimes).

Since arriving in mid-December, Apple AirPods have been in short supply. Online orders placed today, Dec. 30, for example, aren’t expected to arrive for six weeks. That should soon change.

According to Digitimes:

The report noted that Inventec has recently started expanding capacity at its Shanghai plants in order to satisfy increasing demand for the earphones and the plants are currently working overtime to deliver orders.

First announced in September, AirPods feature Apple’s new custom Apple W1 chip, which uses optical sensors and a motion accelerometer to detect when the earbuds are in your ears. The wireless earbuds deliver up to five hours of music playback on a single charge.

The included charging case holds additional charges for more than 24 hours of listening time. A quick 15 minutes in the case can give you up to three hours of listening time.

The early reviews for AirPods have been mostly positive, although some of the comments have noted that battery life for the $159 accessory isn’t as good as Apple had promised.

You can order AirPods through the Apple online store or at retailers such as Best Buy and Target.
