Google Pay App Gets Major Redesign Focusing on Money Management

November 18, 2020

Google has just unveiled a major redesign to its Google Pay app.

Previously, the app had a simple focus on allowing you to send and receive money. But the update adds a number of new personal finance-related features.

The payment section of the app now focuses on the people and businesses you transact with most frequently. Payment, past transactions, loyalty information, and offers are organized into a conversation format.

You can also use the app to order food, pay for gas, and even pay for parking in many cities.

The app will now also show offers from stores like Target and Warby Parker and allow you to redeem them from the app. The savings can be applied when paying in-store or online.

If you connect a bank account or credit card to the app, you can see periodic spending summaries and show trends and insights over time. The app also automatically organizes spending so you can easily find transactions.

Google says that your financial history won’’t be used for ad targeting and the setting is turned off by default. If you select to. Turn it on, you can try the feature for three months. After that, you can select to see the feature or turn it off.

And next year, users can take advantage of special Plex Accounts. Plex is a mobile-focused bank offering checking or savings accounts with no monthly fees, overdraft charges, or minimum balances.

Google Pay is designed for the iPhone and can be downloaded now on the App Store for free.
