Our experience with the Tile Mate
A direct sequel to the first-generation device, the Tile Mate is everything buyers should be looking for in a Bluetooth device tracker – small, lightweight, and easy-to-use. It weighs just 6.1 grams, measures 34mm square and won’t be a big burden on a keychain or other small device that always seems to get lost at the most inopportune moments.

The built-in hole opens up a number of possibilities and allows the device to fit on a number of locations. Along with a keychain, it’s also easy to place it on a backpack or other items.
The Tile Mate is everything buyers should be looking for in a Bluetooth device tracker - small, lightweight, and easy-to-use.
Set up takes just a few minutes. Download the companion app and then hit the “+” sign on the top left corner and then select the Mate. You’ll then need to press the logo on the Mate and then place it near your iPhone. After giving it a name, it’s then added to the app. That’s it.
If you ever misplace the item and tracker, head back to the app. Using Bluetooth, the app keeps constant track of your items and will tell you the last place the Tile was recognized.
Also, you can simply open up the app and select “Find.” The Tile will begin to play a loud 88-decibel musical tone that’s easy to hear under most circumstances. Just for fun, I was able to hear the Tile’s beep even under a very thick couch cushions that my daughter was sitting on.
To make it easier to locate, you can even select the specific Tile ringtone. Bionic Birdie and The Classic Call are loud and easy to locate while there are other great, fun options like Blues for Slim, Jingle Bells, and Auld Lang Syne.

You can also view the last place it was seen on a map. If you’re not within 100 feet of the tracker, it can be marked as lost. Whenever it is located, you’ll receive a push notification and email.
With the Community Find feature, if any other Tile user comes within range of the tracker, you’ll also be notified with an updated location. Just at my location, the app lists more than 3,400 Tile users nearby, so that feature could definitely pay off if losing something in public.
Apple Watch users can also take advantage of the app on the wearable device. Surprisingly powerful, it shows whether a Tile is in range and feature the same Find feature that can play the device’s tone. It will also show a small map and time of the last known Tile location.
Even though the Mate is small that leads to the only issue with the package – the battery, unlike other options, can’t be replaced by the user. Tile will last a year before running out of juice. The reTile program will allow users to purchase a discounted replacement that could be up to 50 percent off of the retail price.

Need a super-thin version of the Tile for your wallet or purse? The Tile Slim is just 2.3mm and does many of the same things the Tile Mate does. The big difference is that the Tile Slim doesn’t have a hole for your keychain as it’s meant for objects that are extremely thin. It’s length and width are also more than the Mate.
