Microsoft Still Trying To Bring Office To iPhone

April 3, 2009

Microsoft's Mac Business Unit had been exploring ways to profit off of iPhone-specific applications since way back in March 2008, but so far nothing has come to fruition.  Speaking at the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco, Microsoft Business Division President Stephen Elop made comments suggesting Microsoft is still working on ways to bring its Office suite of applications to the iPhone. Later on in the day, interviewer Tim O'Reilly asked Elop about his comments made during his speech concerning bringing Office to the iPhone and he backtracked stating "not yet, keep watching."  That's right Stephen, deflect and move on to the next question. This is at least a good sign for business professionals who need to edit documents on the go.  The iPhone is able to display Word and Excel documents, but there is still currently no way to edit them which is somewhat silly when you really think about it.  The App Store has tons of novelty applications and games, but no one has created an effective way to create and edit Office documents. If Microsoft doesn't release something soon, don't fret.  There are other developers working on such applications and they should be released soon enough. [via TechCrunch]
