Next-Gen iPhone Matte Case Rumors Resurface, Multiple 3G Models

May 26, 2009
iphone_matteblack The next generation iPhone rumors are starting to come together and actually make a little more sense.  iLounge is now claiming to have additional insider information that indicates Apple will be offering the new iPhone in six different variations along with a less scratchable matte finish. According to iLounge's trusted sources, the next generation iPhone will come in two different storage capacities across three different models, depending on your local mobile carriers available services, to create a total of six different iPhone models.  The models are being described as 3G, enhanced 3G, and a mainland China version.  Each version will only be made available to specific areas depending on carrier support.  China would obviously get the Chinese only version, countries equipped with regular 3G would get the 3G version, and countries such as the U.S. would get the enhanced 3G version to utilize the faster 7.2Mbps data speeds. iLounge is also reporting that the iPhone's form factor is likely to remain unchanged as previously rumored, but they also indicate that the next generation iPhone will have a new matte plastic finish to make it less prone to scratching.  This rumor would fall perfectly in line with a couple other rumors, including MacRumors' alleged leaked Chinese images. If these rumors are true, and the next generation iPhone ends up utilizing some sort of scratch-resistant matte finish, would you still feel the need to purchase a case for your iPhone?
