Early iPhone 3G S Deliveries Put On Hold?

June 17, 2009

yourpackageexception

"Your package has experienced an exception."  That is definitely not the kind of message you want to see upon waking up and checking the shipping status of your brand new iPhone 3G S, but that is what many of us have been witnessing, so don't worry, it's not just you. It was only yesterday that we were flying high at the thought of receiving our pre-orders a full two days earlier than expected, and then harsh reality had to kick in and take those wonderful dreams away. The shipping status has now gone from an expected delivery date of 6/17/09 to "Exception."  The exception seems to be a confusing one as well.  Packages have been shipped across the world from China to Alaska, only to get stuck in Louisville freakin' Kentucky.  The package description has also been updated with these two gems:
"THE PACKAGE IS BEING HELD FOR FUTURE DELIVERY. UPS WILL ATTEMPT DELIVERY ON THE DATE REQUESTED" and "THE RECEIVER REQUESTED A HOLD FOR A FUTURE DELIVERY DATE. UPS WILL ATTEMPT DELIVERY ON DATE REQUESTED."
Wait?  Who is the receiver again?  I am so confused. It's possible that Apple has just put the brakes on all of the deliveries.  That way everyone will be getting their iPhone 3G S on the very same day just as expected, which would be June 19th if you already forgot.  It could also just be a U.S. Customs related issue as MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team fame has speculated.  I personally hope MuscleNerd is right! Have any of you seen this same change in your delivery status?  Do you have any other theories on what exactly has taken place? If your iPhone 3G S somehow gets into your hands sometime today, feel free to leave a comment telling us how relieved you are.
