Overview

Reliving the Pacific War has never been so much fun! And neither is pushing the big red button! The premise is very simple, bomb the heck out of everything below you...and you know what? It works beautifully and really does an incredible job of recreating the feeling and spirit of the 1940's. The work done on the sound and music alone will literally...blow you away!

Features

The game features over 12 different missions and according to the developers, more are on the way in the next update. The game includes multiple bomb types and numerous health and bonus pick-ups as well. The biggest feature here in my book comes from the realistic audio and 3-D spatial sound, which really gives you the sense of flying miles above the surface.

Breakdown

The Good:

photo-6For me it's the audio, hands down. Everything in this app sounds amazing and it really adds value to the game. You will really feel like you're in the pilot seat as you drop bomb after bomb on your targets below. And when the bombs start falling, the explosions and animations look great. My personal favorite was the siren that sounds every time you come across any land targets. It sounds so far in the distance and I loved every time it went off. It's the little things that make games great in my opinion. Yeah, you can have a fun game, with cool graphics and controls, but it's the little details that make the experience of the game better. This has those details. From the sounds, like the sirens and bomb sounds, to the little sound that accompanies the menu switch. It's a small thing, but when you flip the menu switch you hear a small "flicking" sound. It really feels like you are flipping a switch on an actual control panel. The game is loaded with stuff like this and it's why it is so much fun to play.

The Bad:

photo-7The game is much harder than it looks and you will find yourself losing more than you'd like. I don't mind games like this when the gameplay is as smooth as it is here. But the difficulty here might be an issue for some so I feel I need to at least address it. The controls work, but take a little getting used to. You control the speed by using the accelerometer. Tilt forward and go faster, tilt back and go slower. It works fine, but I wish you had the ability to control the speed by a switch or control stick or something like that. However, I'm not sure where you would fit this on the screen and I understand why it is the way it is.

The Verdict

For a top-down missile based game, this one takes the cake. It has everything you'd want in a game like this, without the stuff you don't. Is it worth the price? Absolutely! It has tons of replay value and it's worth it for the sound design alone. I highly recommend this for anyone that is a fan of WWII based games.
