Rumors had been circulating over the last couple of months indicating that Apple's iPhone would be going through a few physical changes, some even posted alleged leaked images of this new device.  During Monday's WWDC, Apple squashed every last one of those rumors by releasing the new iPhone 3G S which looks exactly like the iPhone 3G.  MacRumors, however, doesn't believe that their leaked images of an iPhone with a matte finish were fake because they claim to have found evidence that may indicate Apple simply had a change of heart. According to MacRumors, the leaked images may have been, at least at one time, a real case for the iPhone 3G S:
Strangely enough, however, the photos do appear to have been real cases for the iPhone 3G S. The leaked matte case design was clearly marked with a new model number A1303 and FCC ID BCGA1303A. Based on the official records released yesterday, this FCC ID does correlate to the new iPhone 3G S.
Since there is no obvious progression in the FCC ID's, they find it hard to believe that someone was able to get lucky and simply guess the new model number. What do you think?  Could these leaked images have been an early version of the iPhone 3G S case?  If so, why would Apple have decided to go back to their glossy finish?
