The PC and console game publishing giant, LucasArts, has entered the iPhone gaming market with a remake of their ultimate classic, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition. The original game was released way back in 1990 and was able to garner a huge following.  Eventually the game spawned many sequels, which has allowed the series to become somewhat of an adventure gaming icon. secretofmonkeyisland_screenThe Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is a re-imagined version of the original.  The game follows the misadventures of a wannabe pirate named Guybrush Threepwood as he attempts to be come the most infamous pirate in the Caribbean.  This re-imagined version features a new contemporary art style, but it also allows you to seamlessly transition to the classic version as well with a simple swipe of two fingers.  That way you can experience the game as it was originally intended.  Just swipe with two fingers again and it will return to the Special Edition. The game also features complete voice-overs by the original cast, a re-mastered musical score using live instruments, a new interface, and a three-level hint system. The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition was released for the PC and Xbox Live Arcade a few weeks ago for $10.  It has received fairly favorable reviews.  The iPhone version is priced at $7.99, so you will actually be saving a couple of dollars if you decide to go with this version instead.  This is definitely a must buy for any fan of the original.
